Use the Customers page to find anyone who has an account on your storefront, see what they have ordered and how much they have spent, and correct their name or phone number. This article explains every part of the page and the customer's details.
Who appears in Customers
Customers lists the people who created an account on your storefront. Customers is on every plan, Free included.
Someone who checks out as a guest does not get an account, so they do not appear here, however often they order. Their orders are still in Orders: search your orders by their email address or phone number to find them. If a guest creates an account later, the orders they placed as a guest stay guest orders. Only orders placed while signed in count on their profile.
- In the sidebar, open Customers.
The list shows the newest accounts first, 20 to a page. The count beside the tabs says how many customers match what you are looking at. Each row shows:
| Part of the row | What it means |
|---|---|
| Initials and name | The customer's first and last name, as they typed it at sign-up, as they last changed it in their account, or as you last corrected it. Select the name to open their details. |
| Email and phone | The email address they signed up with, and their phone number if they gave one. |
| Orders | How many orders they have placed while signed in, cancelled ones included. |
| Spent | The total of those orders, leaving out cancelled ones. See what the totals count. |
| Last order | The date of their most recent order, or Never. |
| Active or Blocked | Whether they can sign in and order. See Active and Blocked. |
| View | Opens the customer's details. |
| Block icon | The round icon at the end of the row blocks the customer; on a blocked customer it is Unblock. See Block or unblock a customer. |
When there are more than 20 customers, Previous and Next at the bottom move between pages, with the page you are on between them (Page 1 of 3).
If nobody has created an account yet, the page says No customers yet and explains that customers appear when they create an account in your storefront.
Search by name, email or phone
- Select the search box at the top of the list.
- Type part of a first name, a last name, the full name, an email address or a phone number.
The list updates as you type, and returns to its first page. The search matches anywhere in a field and ignores capital letters, so “kharab” finds Dima Kharabsheh.
Tip
A full name works too: “Dima Kharabsheh” finds her, and so do “Dima” or “Kharabsheh” alone. Type the first name first, with one space before the last name, as it shows in the list.
Search by phone number
Type a phone number the way it is dialled at home. Numbers are saved in their international form, such as +962725550129, and the search matches their digits whatever you write between them. So 0725550129, 072 555 0129, 725550129, 962725550129, 00962725550129 and +962 72 555 0129 all find the same customer, and so does the number typed in Arabic-Indic digits. Part of a number, such as its last six digits, works too.
The search treats what you type as a phone number when it holds at least four digits and nothing but digits, spaces and the signs + - . / ( ). It leaves out a leading 00, or a leading 0, before matching. The usual search on names and email addresses runs as well, so nothing that matched before is missed.
If nothing matches, the page says No matching customers and suggests a different search term or filter. Check the spelling, try the other name, or select All in case a tab is narrowing the list. A person who only ever checked out as a guest will never match here.
To see everyone again, clear the search box.
Active and Blocked
The three tabs beside the search box narrow the list:
- All shows every customer. It is the tab the page opens on.
- Active shows customers who can sign in and order.
- Blocked shows customers you have blocked.
The tabs work together with the search, so you can search within the blocked customers only. Each row carries the matching status: Active in green, Blocked in red.
To block or unblock someone, see Block or unblock a customer.
A customer's details and order history
- Find the customer in the list.
- Select their name, or select View on their row.
The customer's details open over the list.
From top to bottom, the details show:
| Part | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name, email and status | The customer's name, their email address and Active or Blocked. Select the email address to write to them from your own email app. |
| Reason | Only for a blocked customer: the reason you gave when you blocked them. |
| Orders, Total spent, Average order, Last order | Their totals. See what the totals count. |
| Contact details | Their First name, Last name and Phone, which you can correct. See Correct a name or phone number. |
| Joined | The date and time they created their account. |
| Last sign-in | When they last signed in to your storefront, or Never. |
| Email verified | Yes once they have confirmed their email address. No means they have not confirmed it yet, and a customer cannot sign in until they do. |
| Recent orders | Their 10 most recent orders: the order number, the date, how many products are on it (three of the same dress count as 1 item) and the total. |
Select any order in Recent orders to close the details and open that order. To read the order page, see Read an order page.
To close the details, select Close or the cross at the top, press Esc, or select outside the details. Any change you have not saved is discarded.
If the details cannot open, the console shows Could not load data. and goes back to the list. Try again in a moment.
Orders, total spent and average order
The four tiles at the top of the details, and the Orders and Spent columns in the list, count the customer's orders like this:
| Figure | How it is worked out |
|---|---|
| Orders | Every order they placed while signed in, including cancelled ones. |
| Total spent (Spent in the list) | The totals of all those orders except cancelled ones. An order still awaiting payment, or one you later refunded, is included. |
| Average order | Total spent divided by Orders. |
| Last order | The date of their newest order, cancelled or not. Never if they have not ordered. |
For example, Shahd Momani has 2 orders totalling JOD 159.000, so her average order is JOD 79.500.
Note
Treat Total spent as the value of what a customer ordered, not the cash you received. Because cancelled orders count in Orders but not in Total spent, a cancelled order also pulls the Average order down.
The amounts are shown in the currency of the customer's own orders, whichever role you have. A customer who has not ordered yet shows your store's currency.
Correct a name or phone number
You can correct a customer's first name, last name and phone number, for example when a name was misspelt at sign-up. You cannot change their email address: it is what they sign in with.
Customers can also change their name and phone number in their own account on your storefront, and their change replaces yours.
- Open the customer's details.
- In Contact details, change First name or Last name.
- To change the phone number, check the country code in front of Phone, and select it to pick another country if the number is from abroad.
- Type the number the way it is dialled in that country, with or without its leading 0.
As you type, the field drops a leading 0 that is only dialled inside the country. For example, 0735550129 typed beside +962 shows as 735550129, and is saved as +962735550129.
- Select Save.
| Field | Required | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| First name | Yes | Up to 100 characters. |
| Last name | Yes | Up to 100 characters. |
| Phone | No | Saved as one international number, the country code and the number together, such as +962735550129, up to 20 characters. Only the digits are kept, so spaces and dashes go. A number pasted with + or 00 and its own country code (+962 79… or 00962 79…) is read as that whole number, and the country code in front of the box changes to match it. For the countries at the top of the menu, a number typed with the code of the country already picked in front of the box but no + (962791234567 beside +962) is read the same way, as +962791234567. The leading 0 is kept only where it is part of the number: Italy, San Marino, the Vatican and Côte d’Ivoire. Clear the number to remove it. |
The country menu opens with Jordan (+962), the Gulf countries, Egypt and Palestine first. Type in Search countries to find any other country by its name, its two-letter code or its dialling code.
If you leave a name empty, the console says Fill in every required field. and marks the empty field with Enter a first name. or Enter a last name. Type the name and select Save again.
If the save is refused for another reason, the console says why, for example that the phone number is too long, and nothing changes. Correct it and select Save again.
- Check for Customer updated. The details stay open with your changes, and the list behind them updates.
The audit log, on Business and up, records each correction as Customer details edited, with who made it and when.
Note
Correcting a name here changes the customer's account. Orders they already placed keep the name and address that were on them at checkout. To change those, see Edit an order’s address, notes or tags.
Signed up, no orders yet
A customer who created an account but has not ordered yet still appears in the list, with Orders 0, Spent JOD 0.000 and Last order Never. Their details say No orders yet. under Recent orders.
This is normal: many people create an account before they are ready to buy. If Email verified says No, they have not confirmed their email address yet and cannot sign in until they do.
If the list does not load
If the customers cannot be loaded, the page says Could not load customers with a Try again button.
- Select Try again.
- If it still does not load, check your internet connection and reload the page.
If the page never loads for you but does for the store owner, your role may not include customers. Viewing and correcting customers needs the View customers and Edit customers permissions, which the Store manager and Sales staff roles both have; see Staff roles: what each one can see and do.
What to do next
- Block or unblock a customer who keeps refusing cash-on-delivery orders.
- Read an order page to see everything about one of their orders.
- Open your customers (opens in a new tab).
