Draft and translate your FAQ with AI

Let AI draft questions from your categories and published policy pages, review each one before it shows, and fill your other languages with Translate.

Available on the Starter plan and up

Last updated

AI can suggest FAQ questions and answers for you, built from what your store already says about itself, and it can fill in your other languages. Nothing it writes reaches your storefront until you have read it and chosen to show it.

Drafting questions with AI is on Starter and up, and it does not use AI credits. Translating is on Starter and up too, needs a store that sells in more than one language, and uses AI translation credits.

What the AI drafts from: your categories and published policy pages

When you ask for drafts, the AI is given only:

  • Your store’s name as Settings › Store › Store name gives it, in your main language (the name you signed up with, if that field is empty).
  • The names of your top-level categories, up to 12. See Organise products into categories.
  • The text of the policy pages you have saved and published yourself: shipping, returns, privacy, terms and conditions, and Our story once it is published. Only the first 900 characters of each page are read, in your main language where the page has it. A page that is not published is not read, and neither is our starter text: a page still holding it says [number] days, which your store has not said. See Write and publish your policy pages.
  • Your FAQ groups, so new questions land in groups you already use.
  • Anything you type in the panel (see below).

It is told to use only those facts, to leave out any question it cannot answer from them, and never to invent delivery times, prices, return periods, warranties or contact details. That is why finished, published policy pages give the best drafts: an answer about returns can only be as good as your returns page.

Each run drafts up to 8 questions.

What to tell it

  1. In the sidebar, open FAQ.
  2. Select Draft with AI. A panel opens above your list, with the line “We will draft questions from your categories and the policy pages you have saved and published.”
  3. In Anything else we should know?, type the facts customers ask about that are not on your policy pages, for example We call every customer before we pack. Cash on delivery only for now.
  4. Select Draft questions. The button reads Drafting… while it works.
Short, plain facts give the best drafts. The warning under the field is the rule: read each one before you show it.

The notes field is optional and holds up to about 900 characters; anything longer is cut. Write facts, not instructions: Delivery in Amman takes one day works better than write about delivery. Cancel closes the panel without drafting.

Drafts are saved unpublished: review each one

When the AI is done, you see “Drafts added below, ready for you to review.” The new questions are added to the end of your list, already saved, each marked Draft and AI draft. Customers do not see them.

AI drafts wait at the end of your list. Draft means customers cannot see them yet.

For each draft:

  1. Read the question and answer against how your store really works.
  2. Select Edit (the pencil) to change anything, check its group, and tick Show on the storefront when you are happy.
  3. Select Save.

Delete the ones you do not want with Delete. The AI draft badge stays on a question even after you rewrite it, so you always know where it came from.

Drafts are written in your store’s main language, the Default language in Settings › Localization, and saved under it, so each one opens in the form like a question you wrote yourself. Its group is named in each of your store’s languages; a draft filed under a group you already use takes that group’s own names. In a store with more than one language, a new draft shows a count such as 1/2 languages until you fill its other languages with Translate (below) or by hand.

If nothing usable comes back, you see “No usable questions came back. Try again.” Add a few plain facts in the notes, and make sure your policy pages are saved and published, then try again. If drafting fails, you see “Could not draft questions right now. Try again.”; your list has not changed, so try again later.

Warning

An answer on your FAQ is a promise your store is held to. Never show an AI draft you have not read in full.

Translate every question into your other languages

Translate, at the top of the page, fills in every language a question is missing, for all your questions at once.

  1. Make sure each question is written in your store’s main language.
  2. Select Translate. It reads Translating… while it works.
  3. Read the result in each language: open a question with Edit and expand its language cards.
Translate fills only what is missing. A question shown on your storefront gets its new languages straight away.

What Translate does and does not do:

  • It only fills gaps. A question or answer you have already written or corrected in a language is never replaced.
  • It translates group names too, so each group gets a heading in each language.
  • It saves straight away. For a question already shown on your storefront, the new languages are live at once; drafts stay drafts.
  • It translates from your main language, or from the language a question is written in if your main language is missing.
  • It uses AI translation credits: one for each question, answer and group name it fills, in each language. A gap the translation could not fill costs nothing, and nothing already written is counted. See How AI credits work.

What you might see:

MessageWhat it means
“Your other languages are filled in. Read them before publishing.”Done. Read the new text.
“Nothing to fill in — every question is already written in all your languages.”Nothing was missing.
“Some answers were skipped because their formatting came back broken. Those are still yours to write.”A few translations were not safe to keep. Write those languages by hand with Edit.
“Could not translate the FAQ right now. Try again.”Nothing changed. Try again in a moment.
“You have used all AI translation credits for this month.”Nothing changed. Your credits come back at the start of next month; until then, write the other languages by hand with Edit.
“AI translation is not included in this plan.”Your plan does not include AI translation. Write the other languages by hand, or move up a plan.

The Translate button is there only when your store sells in more than one language, which is Starter and up. It is greyed out while your FAQ is empty. To choose your languages, see Set your store’s languages and currency.

Translate one question from its row

After you rewrite a single answer, you can translate just that question.

  1. Find the question. A pill such as 1/2 languages shows it is missing a language.
  2. Select Translate this question, the first of its row buttons.
  3. Read the result with Edit.
Only this question was translated. The others still show 1/2 languages.

The button is greyed out when the question is already written in all your languages (“Written in all your languages”) and while another translation is running. It fills gaps only, exactly like Translate, and shows the same messages.

Plans with AI writing

Drafting questions with AI is included on Starter, Growth, Business and Enterprise, and it does not use AI credits. Translating is on the same plans and uses AI translation credits from your monthly allowance. On Free, Draft with AI shows a padlock; selecting it shows a message naming the plan that includes it and its price, “This is on Starter — $19/month.”, with See plans. Free sells in one language, so it has no Translate button.

On Free, write your questions yourself with Add question.

On every plan you can write questions yourself with Add question: see Add questions to your FAQ page. To move up, see Plans and what each includes and How AI credits work.

Drafting and translating need permission to edit content: the Store owner and the Store manager have it.
