Your homepage is built from eight sections, one under the other. On the Design tab of the Storefront Studio you choose their order, switch off the ones you do not want, and set the size and picture of the About section. One order serves every language your store sells in.
The homepage sections
- In the sidebar, under Storefront, open Design.
- Open the Homepage sections group. Its header shows how many sections are switched on, for example 8/8.
| Section | What it shows | It appears on your storefront when |
|---|---|---|
| Hero | Your headline, subheading, buttons and hero picture, at the top of the page. | You have written a headline or subheading, or added a hero picture. |
| Category rail | Your top-level categories as tiles, under the heading Shop by category. | You have at least one category. |
| Featured products | Your eight newest products, under the heading Featured. You do not pick them: the newest eight show, by the date each was added, so a product you added a while ago and made Active today may not be among them. See where your products show. | You have products on your storefront. |
| Collection rail | Your collections as tiles, under the heading Shop the collections. | You have at least one collection that is visible in the storefront. |
| Image with text | The About section: a picture beside your story, with an optional button that shows once your Our story page is published. | You have written a title or text for it on the Content tab. |
| Trust badges | Four short promises with icons, such as cash on delivery and delivery times. | You have written at least one badge title. |
| Reviews | Your most recent approved reviews that have written text. | At least one approved review has text. |
| Newsletter | A title, a line of text and an email sign-up form. | You have written its title. |
So a section can be switched on and still not appear: it waits until it has something to show. The words for the hero, About, trust badges, reviews and newsletter sections are written on the Content tab — see Write your storefront text.
If we add a new kind of section, it appears in this list switched on, next to the section it belongs with, and shows nothing until you have content for it.
Move a section up or down
- On the Design tab, open the Homepage sections group.
- Beside the section you want to move, select the up arrow to move it one place up, or the down arrow to move it one place down.
- Repeat until the section is where you want it.
The preview changes at once. The first section’s up arrow and the last section’s down arrow are greyed out. For example, to show Layal Boutique’s newest pieces straight after the hero, select the up arrow beside Featured products once, so it moves above Category rail.
Show or hide a section
- Beside the section, select the eye.
A hidden section shows an eye with a line through it, its row turns grey, and the count in the group’s header drops — 7/8, for example. It disappears from the preview straight away. Select the eye again to show it.
Hiding a section keeps everything in it. Its text, pictures and badge icons stay, ready for when you show it again. It also stays hidden when you generate your storefront with AI: a generation changes the order of the sections, never which ones show.
Two buttons in the hero depend on other sections:
- On most presets, the hero’s primary button scrolls down to Featured products. With that section hidden, the button opens your full product list instead.
- The hero’s secondary button scrolls down to the About section (Image with text). With that section hidden, the button opens your full product list instead.
Which of the two buttons your hero shows depends on your theme preset:
| Theme preset | Hero buttons |
|---|---|
| Atelier, the default | The primary button only. It always opens your product list, without scrolling. |
| Onyx, Drop | The secondary button only. |
| Bloom, Juno, Circuit, Souq | The primary button only. |
| Sadeem, Oud, Terra, Haven, Volt | Both buttons. |
A button your preset does not show stays hidden even when you write its label. To change preset, see Choose a theme, colours and fonts.
The About section: image size and image
The section listed as Image with text is your About section. Its look is set in the About section group, just below Homepage sections; its words are on the Content tab.
- Open the About section group. Its header shows the size in use, such as Standard.
- Under About size, select Compact, Standard or Tall. This sets how tall the section is; your text stays centred beside the picture. On a phone, the picture sits above the text and is kept to part of the screen’s height.
- Under About image, select Upload and choose a photo — a JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF file of up to 10 MB. On Growth and up you can instead describe a picture and select Generate with AI; see Generate hero and About images with AI.
To remove the picture, select the × in its corner. The slot shows an empty frame, and the About section shows a plain panel where the picture was.
Your recent About images
Every picture you upload or generate for the About section is kept in a list, newest first, up to 20. The list appears as Your about images, under the description box, once the slot has held two pictures or more.
- Select a thumbnail to use that picture again. The one in use has a dark outline.
- The × on a thumbnail takes it off the list. The file itself is kept, so a picture already live on your storefront never breaks.
- Clear empties the list. The picture in the slot stays.
The hero picture has its own list, Your hero images, which works the same way.
Publish the new order
Every change in this article — the order, hidden sections, the About size and picture — is part of your draft. The status under the Studio’s title reads Unpublished changes until you publish, and customers keep seeing your published homepage.
- Check the result in the preview. To see it on a phone, select the mobile icon at the top of the Studio.
- Select Save draft to keep your changes without making them live, or Publish to make them live.
When publishing works, you see Changes published. and the status reads Published. If Publish is greyed out and the status reads Finish setup to publish, your store still has tasks on its setup list. If it reads Confirm your email to publish, use the link we emailed you at sign-up first. Why Publish can be locked, and who can publish, is in Save a draft and publish your storefront.
Next, write the words for these sections in Write your storefront text, or fill the Collection rail with Add a collection.
