You added a product, but you or your customers cannot find it on your storefront. Work through the checks below in order — most products turn up after the first or second one.
Is the product Active, not Draft or Archived?
Customers see only products whose status is Active. Every new product is saved as Draft — the Status field says so when you add it: “New products are saved as Draft. Publish after reviewing.” Until you change it, the product is in your console but nowhere on your storefront.
| Status | On your storefront |
|---|---|
| Active | On sale: in its category, in All products, in search results, in its collections and on its own page. |
| Draft | Not shown anywhere. Its own link shows Product not found. |
| Archived | Not shown anywhere, the same as a draft. Use it for products you have stopped selling but want to keep. |
To check the status:
- In the sidebar, open Products and select Products under it, or open your products list (opens in a new tab).
- Select the Draft tab, then the Archived tab. If your product is listed on either, that is why customers cannot see it.
To put it on sale:
- Select the product’s name to open it.
- On the Details tab, open the Status list in the Product settings panel and choose Active.
- Select Save.
The product is on your storefront as soon as Product updated. appears. You do not need to publish your storefront again for it.
You can also change the status without opening the product: in the products list, select the status badge on its row and choose Active. That change is saved at once, with the message Saved. See publish, archive or delete a product.
Changing a product’s status needs a role that can edit products: the store owner and store managers can, sales staff cannot. See staff roles and permissions.
Is your storefront published?
Until your store’s first publish, every customer who visits it sees an Opening soon page with your logo and store name — not your products, however many are Active.
- In the sidebar, under Storefront, open Design. The Storefront Studio opens.
- Read the state under Storefront Studio, at the top left.
- Not published yet, or Unpublished changes on a store that has never been published: select Publish when your design is ready.
- Finish setup to publish: Publish waits for the setup list on your Dashboard. Select it, finish the open tasks, then come back and publish. See the setup list before your first publish.
- Confirm your email to publish: your store stays closed until you use the link we emailed you at sign-up. See what stays closed until you use the link.
See save a draft and publish your storefront for each state, and for why Publish can be locked.
Once your store has been published, you never need to publish again to show a product. Publish in the Studio is for your design: products go live with their own status.
Are you looking in the right place?
An Active product on a published store is in more places than you might look first — and not in every place:
- Your home page, if its Featured products section is switched on in the Studio, shows the 8 most recently added Active products under the heading Featured — by the date you created them, not the date you made them Active. A product you created earlier and published today may not be there, but it is one click away through View all. See arrange your homepage sections.
- Its category page, and the page of every category above it. A product with No category is not on any category page.
- All products, the page that lists every product on sale.
- Search results, for the words in its name, description or brand.
- Its own page: your store’s address followed by
/product/and the product link, such as/product/terracotta-linen-shirt-dress. The hint under Product link in the console shows/products/; on your storefront the address is/product/, without the s.
A product with no stock still shows, marked Sold out.
If your storefront was already open in a browser tab when you made the product Active, refresh the page: an open tab keeps what it loaded.
Is it in a collection you hid?
If you expect to see the product in a collection — among the collection tiles of your home page’s Collection rail, or on the collection’s own page — check the collection itself.
- In the sidebar, open Products and select Collections.
- Find the collection. A hidden collection’s row is faded and carries an Inactive chip. A collection added with Visible in the storefront switched off is hidden from the start.
- Open it with the pencil (Edit), turn on Visible in the storefront and select Save.
While a collection is hidden, its tile leaves the home page and its page says Collection not found. Its products are not affected: they still show in their categories, in All products and in search.
A collection on your storefront shows only its Active products. A draft you added to a collection appears there once it is Active. See add a collection and choose and arrange a collection’s products.
Searching in another language when the product has no name in it
Your storefront search looks for the customer’s words in each product’s name, description and brand, in every language you have written them in. If a product has no Arabic name or description, an Arabic search cannot find it.
For example, if Layal’s Terracotta linen shirt dress had only its English name and description, a customer browsing in Arabic would still see it — under its English name — but a search for فستان would not bring it up.
To fix it, give the product a name, and ideally a description, in each of your store’s languages. See translate a product to your other languages.
Note
Words of one or two letters are searched in your store’s main language only, not in the translations. A customer who types a longer word gets results from every language.
Searching with a different word: search synonyms
A customer can type a word your product does not use. Your product says jumper, they search sweater; your product says abaya, they search عباية. The search does not know these mean the same thing, so it finds nothing.
Search synonyms teach it. Add a row such as sweater → jumper, and a search for sweater finds your jumpers. Synonyms are in Settings, on the Operations tab, and they work on every plan.
A synonym is used only when the customer’s whole search is exactly the term: sweater, not sweaters or red sweater. It also works one way, from the term to its synonyms. Add a row for each form your customers type. See add search synonyms.
Tip
Test a search in your own products list (opens in a new tab) first: the search box there uses the same synonyms. If a word finds the product in the console but not on the storefront, check that the product is Active.
A small typo is usually not the problem: when a storefront search of four letters or more finds nothing, it also tries product names spelt nearly the same.
Still missing? Tell us
If the product is Active, your store is published, and it still does not show where it should, open a support ticket. Include:
- the product’s name and its product link;
- where you looked on your storefront, and in which language;
- what a customer sees instead, with a screenshot if you can.
Next, see find products in your catalogue to check a product’s status and stock from your list, or publish, archive or delete a product.
