The setup list before your first publish

The “Set up your store” list on your dashboard: what each task needs, why the Storefront Studio opens only at its end, and what comes after launch.

Last updated

The Set up your store list on your dashboard tracks what your store needs before its storefront can be designed and published: its details, products people can buy, a way to deliver them and the legal pages every store owes its customers. Here is each task, what counts as done, and what the list becomes after you launch.

Where the setup list is, and how it counts

The list sits at the top of your Dashboard, under the line Finish these to open the Storefront Studio. On a computer it has two halves.

  • On the left, a ring counts the tasks done, for example 3/8. Under it, Next up names the task to do now and what it is missing, with a button that opens the right page.
  • On the right, After that shows the other open tasks as cards, and Done shows the finished ones as small ticked chips with their count. Any card or chip opens its page.
A new store: nothing done yet. Each card says what is missing.

The total depends on your plan: 8 tasks on Growth, Business and Enterprise, which take card payments and so include Connect HyperPay, and 7 tasks on Free and Starter, which take cash on delivery only.

Partly done: the line under the next task says exactly what is short.

When one task is left, Next up becomes Last step.

One task left before the Storefront Studio opens.

Tasks tick themselves when your store has the thing

Nothing is ticked by hand. Each time you open the dashboard, the list checks your store and marks a task done once the store has what it asks for. It works the other way too: archive a product so that only two are ready, and the products task opens again.

Your store’s name, description and logo

Name and describe your store needs three things in Settings, on the Store tab:

FieldMissing, the task says
Store nameNo store name
Store descriptionNo description
LogoNo logo

The name and description are checked in your store’s default language. Your store name comes from sign-up, so a new store usually still needs only its description and logo. Press Open store settings to go straight there. See Update your store’s details.

Your contact email, phone and address

Add your contact details needs Contact email, Contact phone and Address, on the same Store tab of Settings. Your storefront’s footer and contact page show all three, so customers know who they are buying from. A new store starts with the email you signed up with as its contact email. When one is empty, the task says No email address, No phone number or No address. You can type a Jordanian phone number the way you dial it, such as 0791234567: it is saved with the +962 country code.

Three active products, each with a photo and a price, ready to buy

Add three products, ready to sell counts a product as ready when all of these are true:

  1. Its status is Active, not Draft or Archived.
  2. It has at least one photo.
  3. At least one of its variants has a price above zero and can be bought: Track inventory is off, or it has stock, or Allow backorder is on.

The line under the task counts for you: 2 of 3 products ready, 1 without a photo, 1 with no price or stock. Press Open products to fix them. See Add a product.

A product in a category

Put a product in a category needs at least one Active product placed in a category, so your storefront’s menu has something in it. Until then the task says No active product is in a category. Press Open categories, or set the category on the product itself. See Organise products into categories.

A shipping zone with a rate, and a delivery provider

Two tasks cover getting orders to customers.

  • Set a shipping zone and rate needs an active shipping zone with at least one active rate in it. It says No shipping zone when you have none, and Your zone has no rate when the zone is there but nothing is priced. Press Open shipping rates. See Set up shipping zones by area.
  • Add a delivery provider needs at least one active delivery provider. It says No delivery provider until you add one. Press Open delivery providers. See Add a delivery provider.

All four policy pages: our starter text, checked by you and published

Publish your policy pages covers four pages: Shipping, Returns, Privacy and Terms & conditions. Your store does not start from nothing: when it is created, we write all four as starter text, in each language your store sells in, with highlighted blanks where only you know the detail, such as your delivery times or how many days a customer has to return an item. They start Not published, so your storefront shows no policy links until you publish them. A new store’s task therefore reads 4 of 4 pages not published.

A page counts when it is both:

  • Published, so customers can read it on your storefront, and
  • Saved by you at least once, so it is your text and not only ours.

Press Open policy pages to open the editor. While a page is still our starter text, its tab carries a small !. Above the page you see Not published and the number of blanks left, for example 16 to fill in, and in the preview beside it the blanks are highlighted, with the line Highlighted text is waiting for a detail only you can supply.

Our starter text: the ! on the tab, the count of blanks, and the blanks highlighted in the preview.

For each page:

  1. Read it through, and fill every highlighted blank with your store’s own detail.
  2. Tick Published on the storefront.
  3. Select Save. If blanks are left, the console asks Publish with blanks? first.

Once you have saved a page, the ! leaves its tab. See Write and publish your policy pages.

A store set up before the editor existed may show 2 of 4 pages still our starter text instead: those pages are published but have never been saved by you. Open and save each one.

Warning

Neither our starter text nor an AI draft is legal advice about your store. Read every page before you publish it: customers can hold you to what your policies say.

Why Design and Content stay locked until then

Until every task above is done, the Storefront Studio stays shut. In the sidebar, Design and Content are dimmed with a small padlock.

The setup lock: Design and Content open once the setup list is done.

Pressing either one, or opening the Studio’s address directly, brings you to your dashboard with the message Finish setting up your store before designing it. The list is on your dashboard.

Pressing a locked Studio entry explains why and shows you the list.
Opening the Studio’s address lands here too.

The lock exists so the first storefront your customers see is a working store: products they can buy, delivery they can choose and policies they can read. It is not a plan lock and costs nothing to open: finish the list, and Design and Content open on your next page change. For padlocks that come from your plan, see Why does a feature show a padlock?

Once every task that holds the Studio shut is done, the list folds into one line: Your store is ready to design, with an Open Storefront Studio button.

Everything is done: design your storefront, then publish it.

If you signed up with your email and have not used the link we emailed you yet, a second line under it says Your store stays closed until you confirm your email. Use the link we sent you, or send it again from the top of this page. The email is not a task on the list, because it is about your account, not your store, but your store cannot be published until you use the link. See Confirm your email and fix a wrong address.

HyperPay before your first publish (plans with card payments)

On Growth, Business and Enterprise, Connect HyperPay is part of the list, with the tag Needed to publish. It is the one task that does not keep the Studio shut: approval of a live HyperPay account can take weeks, so you can design while you wait. It does hold back publishing.

The task is done when four things are true: your HyperPay keys are saved, card payments are turned on, HyperPay has confirmed the keys, and the Webhook secret from HyperPay is saved. Until then the task says what is missing:

The task saysWhat to do on Card payments
Not connectedEnter your HyperPay keys and save them.
Turned offYour keys are saved, but card payments are switched off. Tick Accept card payments at checkout and save. If Save stays unavailable with Add the webhook secret to turn card payments on., paste the Webhook secret from HyperPay first.
Keys not confirmed by HyperPayHyperPay has not accepted the keys yet. See HyperPay did not accept my keys — what now?
Webhook secret not addedAdd the webhook secret from HyperPay. You only meet this on card payments that were turned on before the secret was required: today card payments cannot be turned on without it, because HyperPay encrypts its payment notices with it.

You see Turned off, for example, when you saved your keys with card payments off while you fetch the webhook secret from HyperPay.

Turned off: your keys are saved, but card payments are not on yet.

Press Open card payments to go there.

When it is the only task left, the ready line says Design your storefront now, and connect HyperPay before you publish it. and offers Open card payments beside Open Storefront Studio.

Design now; connect HyperPay before you publish.

In the Studio, Publish stays unavailable until HyperPay is done, and a Finish setup to publish button takes you back to the list. If you have not used the link we emailed you at sign-up yet, the Studio names that first: Confirm your email to publish. See Connect HyperPay for card payments and Save a draft and publish your storefront.

After launch, a task that comes undone, for example when HyperPay keys are removed or products are archived, brings the full list back with Finish these to complete your store’s setup. Your storefront stays published and the Studio stays open.

After launch, an open task returns as a reminder. Nothing is locked.

After launch: your domain, a team member, social links, an FAQ answer and your first order

When you publish for the first time, the list becomes After launch: a smaller set of tasks for a store that is open for business. It starts folded, showing only its count, for example 3 of 6 done, with a Show button.

Folded after launch: a count and a Show button.

Press Show to see it, and Hide to fold it again. Open tasks are under Still to do; finished ones under Done.

Opened: what is left, and what you have already done.

Tasks your plan does not include are left out of the list rather than shown locked. When every task is done, the list leaves your dashboard. See Connect your own domain, Add a staff member and Add questions to your FAQ page.

Reminder emails while setup is open

If your store is still unpublished with tasks left, we email you a reminder 2, 5 and 12 days after you signed up. Each one goes to the email you signed up with, not to the Contact email in Settings, and is written in your store’s language. It names the next task and what it is missing, and its Continue setup button opens that task in the console.

Each reminder is sent once, and they stop as soon as you publish your storefront. They go only to a store whose owner has confirmed their email: once you have used the link we emailed you, or reset your password, or straight away if you signed up with Google.

What to do next

Start with the task under Next up, and when the ready line appears, open the Studio: Save a draft and publish your storefront. For a tour of the rest of the console, see Find your way around the console.
