After you sign up with your email, we email you a link to create your password. Using it confirms your email: until then your store stays closed, and afterwards it opens to customers the first time you publish it. This article explains who arrives in the console already signed in, how the link works, what each message on the password page means, and what to do when the link has expired.
Signed in already: email and Google sign-ups
How you reach the console the first time depends on how you signed up.
| How you signed up | What happens next |
|---|---|
| A paid plan, with your email | After you pay, our payment page sends you back to noqtashop.com. Press Go to the console and you arrive in the console signed in, with a banner asking you to confirm your email. Until you create your password from the email, your store stays closed. See Pay for your plan at sign-up. |
| The Free plan, with your email | The page that ends the sign-up tells you we have emailed you a link, and offers Go to the console. Press it and you arrive in the console signed in, with the same banner. Until you create your password from the email, your store stays closed. See On the Free plan. |
| Continue with Google | There is no password email and nothing to confirm: Google has confirmed your address. Press Go to the console on the page that ends the sign-up, or on a paid plan on the page you come back to after paying; Google signs you in from then on. See Sign up with your Google account. |
However you signed up, your new store starts closed to customers: they see its Opening soon page until you publish it for the first time from the Storefront Studio, once your setup list is done. See Your store’s first publish.
When you press Go to the console, a short Signing in… screen checks your store and starts your session, then opens your dashboard.
On a paid plan, Go to the console signs you in once, within 30 minutes of signing up, and only in the tab you paid from. While that first session lasts, pressing it again takes you straight back to your dashboard. After that, after a cancelled payment, or on another device, it opens the sign-in page instead. On the Free plan, the button stays on the page that ends the sign-up for 25 minutes, then goes. Either way that is expected: until you have a password, the emailed link is how you get in.
Note
Signed in with your email, you can work in the console before you create your password. Until you do, your store stays closed: you cannot publish it, customers see its Opening soon page and it takes no orders. A banner at the top of every page reads Confirm your email so you can publish your store, with Resend email and Wrong address?. Once this first session ends, you have no password to sign in with, so use the link first. See Confirm your email and fix a wrong address.
The email that creates your password, and your spam folder
Straight after sign-up we email the address you typed. The email comes from NoqtaShop and is written in your store’s language. Its subject names your store, for example Set up your Layal Boutique admin account. It greets you by name, tells you your store is ready, and has one button, Set Password. The button opens the page headed Create your password.
If it has not arrived within a few minutes:
- Look in your spam or junk folder, and in any Promotions or Updates tab.
- Search your mailbox for your store’s name, which is in the subject.
- Check that the address you signed up with has no typing mistake. While you are signed in, the banner at the top of the console shows it. On a paid plan, so does the page you return to after paying.
- While you are still signed in, press Resend email on the console’s banner. On a paid plan you can also press Send it again beside No email? on the page you returned to, in the browser you signed up in. A new link comes only when one is due, so give it a few minutes.
- If the address was wrong, press Wrong address? on the banner and type the right one: a new link goes there. See Wrong address? Send the link to the right one.
If you are no longer signed in and the email never arrives, write to us (opens in a new tab) with the address you used.
Open the link within 24 hours
The link works for 24 hours from the moment we send it, and only once. After you create your password it stops working, because its job is done.
Each new link replaces the one before it. If you asked for another email, use the button in the newest one; older links no longer work.
Create a strong password: the strength meter
The link opens Create your password, under Welcome to your store. The page opens in the language the email was written in. You can switch it with the language menu at the top.
- In New password, type your password. It must be at least 8 characters.
- Read the strength meter that appears under the field as you type.
- In Confirm password, type the same password again.
- Press Create password.
The meter fills up to four bars and shows one word: Too short, Weak, Medium or Strong. Beside the word it gives one tip at a time:
| Tip | What it means |
|---|---|
| Use at least 8 characters. | The password is shorter than the minimum and will not be accepted. |
| Mix in a capital letter, a number or a symbol. | It has no capital letter, or no number. |
| Avoid repeated or sequential characters. | It leans on runs like aaaa or 1234. |
| Avoid common words and patterns. | It contains a word that is easy to guess, such as password or qwerty. |
| Avoid the account name or email address. | It contains part of your email address. This always counts as weak. |
| Length helps more than anything else — try a few more characters. | It already mixes capitals and numbers; a few more characters would make it strong. |
The meter is advice. Only the 8-character minimum is a rule: a Weak password of 8 characters or more is accepted. We still recommend Strong, because this password opens your whole store.
If you press Create password with a field empty or a password shorter than 8 characters, the page shows Complete all required fields. Fill both fields and press it again.
When the two passwords do not match
Passwords do not match. means the two fields are different, often by one character or a capital letter.
Clear Confirm password, type the password again carefully, and press Create password.
Password created: now sign in
While your password is saved, the page shows Activating account… with two steps, Validate invite and Activate account. This is the moment your store stops being closed: from now on you can publish it, once your setup list is done, and customers see it once you do. Nothing is published for you.
When it finishes you see Password created. You can now sign in. and a Back to sign in link.
- Press Back to sign in. The sign-in page opens with your email and your store address already filled in.
- Type your new password.
- Press Sign in.
Creating a password ends any session that was open before, including the one you had after signing up. If the console is open in another tab, it may ask you to sign in again there, and the banner asking you to confirm your email is gone. For everything about the sign-in page, see Sign in to the console.
When the link has expired: Send me a new link, or contact us
A link stops working after its 24 hours, once it has been used, or when a newer one is sent. You find out when you use it:
- Open the link from the email.
- Type your password in both fields and press Create password. Instead of saving it, the page turns into This link no longer works, with the line The link to create your password has expired or has already been used. Enter your email and we will send you a new one.
- Check the Email address field. It is filled in from the link, and it must be the address you signed up with.
- Press Send me a new link. The button reads Loading while the request goes.
- Read the message that takes the form’s place: If that address has an account waiting, a new link is on its way.
- Open the newest email, checking your spam folder too, and create your password within 24 hours.
The message is worded that way on purpose. The page gives the same answer whether or not a link was sent, so nobody can use it to find out which addresses have a store. A new link goes out only when the address is the one your store was signed up with, your password has not been created yet, and a new link is due.
New links are spaced out: the first can come a few minutes after the last email, and each one after that waits longer. We send at most 5 new links, and the same spacing covers Send it again on noqtashop.com and Resend email and Wrong address? on the console’s banner. See How often a new link can go. If none reaches you, or you signed up more than 6 months ago, write to us (opens in a new tab) with the email and store address you signed up with, and our team will send you one. If you are still signed in to the console from your sign-up, you can also open a support ticket.
Two other messages can appear on this page:
- Could not send a new link. Try again in a few minutes. The request did not reach us, or many were sent from your connection in a short time. Wait a few minutes and press Send me a new link again.
- Could not create your password. Try again. Saving failed for a reason that has nothing to do with the link, such as a dropped connection. Check your connection and press Create password again.
If the page opens on This link no longer works before you have typed anything, the link reached it incomplete, which happens when it is copied by hand. Open it with the button in the newest email instead.
Warning
If you have already created your password, the old link still turns into This link no longer works, and Send me a new link still shows its message, but no email comes: you do not need one. Sign in with your password, and if you no longer know it, see Reset a forgotten password.
A store our team set up for you: the invitation email
If our team opened your store for you, for example on an Enterprise contract, you did not use the sign-up at all. You receive the same email: it names your store, greets you by name and has the button that opens Create your password. Everything above applies to it: the 24 hours, the strength meter, and Send me a new link when it has expired.
After you sign in, if the plan still has to be paid, the console opens on Your subscription isn’t active with a Go to subscription button. See A payment failed, or your store is locked. A plan already arranged and paid through our team opens straight onto your dashboard.
Your first stop: the dashboard and its setup list
You land on your dashboard. At its top, Set up your store lists what your store needs before you can design and publish it: your store’s name, description and logo; your contact details; three products ready to sell; a product in a category; a shipping zone with a rate; a delivery provider; your policy pages; and, on plans with card payments, HyperPay. Start there: The setup list before your first publish.
