Give a product a short table of facts, such as material, fit and care, that customers can scan before they buy. You add the rows on the product's Specifications tab, put them in the order you want, and write them in each of your store's languages.
What specifications are for
The description tells the story of a product. Specifications answer the quick questions a customer asks before buying: what is it made of, how does it fit, how do I wash it, where is it made. Each row has a label, such as Material, and a value, such as 100% linen, garment-dyed.
On your storefront, the rows appear under Specifications on the product page, in your order, in the customer's language. If your storefront offers product comparison, they appear there too, with each product in its own column.
Good rows for a fashion store:
| Label | Value |
|---|---|
| Material | 100% linen, garment-dyed |
| Fit | Relaxed, falls just below the knee |
| Care | Machine wash cold, line dry |
| Model | Model is 172 cm and wears size S |
| Made in | Amman, Jordan |
Specifications describe the whole product. If something differs by size or colour, such as the price or the photo, set it on the variant instead: see Sell a product in sizes and colours.
Add a row: label and value
- In the sidebar, open Products, then open the product or select Add product.
- Select the Specifications tab. A product with no rows shows No specification rows yet.
- Select Add a row.
- In the left box, type the label, for example Material.
- In the right box, type the value, for example Satin, fully lined.
- Repeat for each row, then select Save at the top of the page.
What to know about rows:
- A row needs both a label and a value. A row with only one of them, in every language, is dropped when you save.
- Keep labels short (one or two words) and values to one line. Customers scan this table.
- The whole table, in every language, can hold about 20,000 characters. A product with more cannot be saved and shows Could not save changes.
- Rows are not shared between products. Each product has its own table. Duplicate copies a product with its table, which is a quick way to start a similar product — see duplicate a product.
Put the rows in order
The order on this tab is the order on your storefront. Each row is numbered on the left.
- Select the up arrow (Move up) to move a row one place up.
- Select the down arrow (Move down) to move it one place down.
The first row cannot move up and the last cannot move down, so their arrows are greyed. Moving a row moves it in every language at once. Select Save to keep the new order.
Tip
Put what customers ask about most first. For clothes, that is usually material, then fit, then care.
Write the rows in your other languages
When your store sells in more than one language, the tab shows one button per language above the rows, for example English and Arabic. Your default language comes first.
- Write the rows in your default language first.
- Select another language above the rows. The rows stay the same, and the boxes now hold that language's words.
- Type each label and value in that language. The boxes switch to that language's direction, so Arabic reads right to left.
- Select Save.
To let AI write the missing languages, select Translate missing fields at the top of the tab. Its badge shows how many boxes it would fill: one for each label or value that is written in your default language but empty in another language. It fills only empty boxes and never changes a row you translated by hand. When it finishes, the console says Missing translations filled., or Some translations could not be filled. if a few stayed empty. Check the result, then select Save.
AI translation is on Starter and up and uses AI translation credits: one for each label or value, for each language it is empty in — exactly the number on the badge. A box that already has text is neither translated again nor charged, and a box the AI could not fill gives its credit back. Below Starter, the button carries a padlock, and pressing it names the plan that includes AI translation. Otherwise it is greyed when nothing is missing, or when nothing is written in your default language yet. Its hint then says Add content in the primary language first. If it answers You have used all AI translation credits for this month., type the rest yourself or wait for next month's credits. If it answers Could not fill translations., your role has neither Edit settings nor Edit storefront design, or the AI did not answer: try again in a moment. See Translate a product to your other languages and How AI credits work.
If a row has no words in a customer's language, the storefront shows its English wording, or failing that, whichever language you wrote it in. A row is never left out because one language is missing, so fill every language to keep the table in one language for each customer.
Delete a row
- Select the red bin icon (Delete) at the end of the row.
- Select Save to make it final.
The row goes at once, in every language, with no confirmation. If you deleted the wrong row, leave the page without saving and choose Leave page to get it back. Once you save, it is gone.
To delete only one language's words, clear the label and value boxes in that language instead, and keep the row.
What to do next
- Translate a product to your other languages, to finish the name and descriptions in every language.
- Add a product, for the rest of the product form.
