The History tab on a product lists the changes made to it — its details, prices, stock, photos and variants — with the email of the person who made each one and the date and time. Use it when a price or a stock number is not what you expected and you need to know who changed it, and when.
The History tab is on Starter and up. See plans and what each includes.
Open the History tab
- In the sidebar, open Products and select Products under it, or open your products list (opens in a new tab).
- Select the product’s name to open it.
- Select the History tab, the last tab after SEO.
The tab opens on a card headed History with the line Review product changes, inventory updates, and media edits. Below it are the changes, newest at the top, all in one list.
A few things to know about the tab:
- It appears only on a product that has been saved. The New product page has no History tab; it appears once you select Save for the first time.
- The list is fetched when you open the tab. If you save a change while you are on it, select History again to see the new entry.
- Anyone whose role can see products can read the history, sales staff included. See staff roles and permissions.
What is recorded
Every entry has a name in bold that says what kind of change it was. The table lists each name, what writes it, and the lines you read under it.
| Entry | Written when | What the lines under it say |
|---|---|---|
| Product created | The product is added and saved for the first time | The product was created as “Terracotta linen shirt dress”. |
| Product updated | Someone selects Save on the Edit product page | The product’s name, status and category after the save, for example Name set to Terracotta linen shirt dress., Status changed to Active. and Category updated. — and Product link changed from … to … when the link changed |
| Variant added | A new variant is saved | Variant … was added. with the variant’s SKU, and Price set to … |
| Variant updated | Someone selects Save on the product: one entry for each of its variants | Each field that changed, from the old value to the new one: price, compare-at price, cost per item, SKU, stock tracking, and orders when out of stock. A stock change is a Stock updated entry of its own |
| Stock updated | Someone saves a stock change with Save stock action in the stock window, or saves a new number typed in Stock quantity on the product page | Stock quantity changed from 6 to 8. and the reason they typed — or, for a number typed on the page, Changed on the product page |
| Variant images changed | The photo linked to a variant is saved | Variant images updated. |
| Image added | A photo is uploaded | An image was added. |
| Image updated | A photo’s description or its place in the order is changed | The setting that changed, such as Image description set to … or Image order changed from … to … |
| Image file replaced | A photo is replaced with a new file | An image file was replaced. |
| Main image changed | Another photo is made the main one | The main image was changed. |
| Status changed | The status is changed from the products list, for one product or many at once | Status changed to Archived. |
| Category changed | The category is set from the products list for many products at once | Category updated. |
| Product duplicated | The product is a copy made with Duplicate | The product was created as a copy of another product. |
| Change recorded | Any other change | A change was recorded. |
Prices show in your store’s currency, for example JOD 49.000. A status reads Draft, Active or Archived. A name, SKU or reason someone typed shows exactly as they typed it.
What is not in the history
- The prices, stock and variants a product started with. Product created records only its name. Prices and stock first appear when you change them, and a Variant added entry is written only for a variant you add to a product that is already saved.
- The exact detail you changed on the Details tab. A Product updated entry repeats the name, status and category the product had after the save. It does not say whether the description, brand, specifications, video or a translation changed.
- Changes on the SEO tab, and a variant’s weight or option values such as size and colour. They leave only a Product updated entry with its usual lines, or a Variant updated entry that reads A change was recorded.
- Which variant changed. A Variant updated entry lists what changed but names the variant only when its SKU changed. Because Save writes an entry for every variant, a variant that did not change gets a Variant updated entry that reads A change was recorded. — and a variant with a linked photo gets a Variant images changed entry that reads the same.
- Which photo you moved. Reordering photos writes an Image updated entry for every photo. The ones that did not move read A change was recorded.
- Stock sold, cancelled or returned through orders. Those movements are in each variant’s Stock history, with the order number. See adjust stock and see its history.
- Changes made by importing a CSV file. An import that adds products or updates prices and stock leaves no entry here. The stock numbers it sets are in each variant’s Stock history, as Set by a product import. See import and export products.
- Variants and photos you deleted. Once a variant or a photo is deleted, its entries no longer show on the tab — including the price changes it had.
Tip
On Business and up, the audit log also records who changed products, variants, photos and stock, and when — including who deleted a variant or a photo, which this tab no longer shows. It does not say which product it was or give the values before and after, so use the two together.
Reading an entry: who, what and when
Each entry is a card with three parts:
| Part | What it shows |
|---|---|
| The name in bold | The kind of change, such as Variant updated or Stock updated — see the table above. |
| The line under it | The email address of the person who made the change, then the date and time — for example owner@layal.example · Oct 05, 2026, 11:31 AM. The time is in your device’s own time zone. System in place of an email means nobody was signed in when the change was made. |
| The bullet points | What changed. Price changed from JOD 52.000 to JOD 49.000. gives the old value and the new one. Compare-at price set to JOD 58.000. means the field was empty before. Stock tracking changed from off to on. is a switch being turned on. |
For example, in Layal Boutique’s Terracotta linen shirt dress:
- Variant updated, by the owner on 5 October: the price dropped from JOD 52.000 to JOD 49.000, and a compare-at price of JOD 58.000 was added, so the storefront shows it as a sale.
- Stock updated, on 11 August: stock went from 6 to 8, with the reason Restock from the workshop.
An entry stays with the email it was made under. A staff member you later remove still shows by their email on the changes they made.
The history cannot be edited or cleared. To put a price back, change it — on the Pricing tab for a product without options, or on the Variants tab — and select Save. The correction becomes a new entry at the top. See set a product’s price, cost and stock.
A product with no changes yet
A product with nothing recorded shows No product history yet. in place of the list.
You see it on a product that was added by importing a CSV file and has not been changed in the console since. A product added in the console starts with a Product created entry.
The tab shows the same message if the history cannot be loaded. If you expect entries and see none, refresh the page and open History again. If it is still empty, open a support ticket.
On the Free plan
On the Free plan the History tab shows a padlock, and so does SEO.
Selecting the locked History tab does not open it. A message says This is on Starter — $19/month. with a See plans link to your subscription.
A link that points straight at the History tab opens Details instead and shows the same message.
Note
The history is recorded on every plan, Free included — only reading it needs Starter. When you move up, every change made while you were on Free is already there.
See why a feature shows a padlock, or change your plan to move up.
Next, adjust stock and see its history, or read the store-wide audit log.
